A Weather Update For Colder Temperatures:

December 3, 2025 by Mescalero Apache Tribe

We want to give everyone a heads-up that a cold front is set to arrive tonight, bringing with it a significant drop in temperatures. As we prepare for this chilly change, let’s remember a few important steps to ensure our safety and comfort:

-Please take the time to dispose of your fire ashes carefully and responsibly, ensuring they are fully extinguished. We don’t want any fire hazards during this colder weather.

-It’s also a good idea to check in on our elderly neighbors and loved ones. A quick visit or phone call can make a world of difference in ensuring they have everything they need to stay warm and cozy.

-Don’t forget to bundle up! Layering your clothing and using blankets can help keep the cold at bay.

Let’s come together as a community and look out for one another during this cold spell. Stay safe and warm, everyone!

First We Bombed New Mexico is the untold story of Trinity, the world’s first nuclear bomb, detonated in New Mexico one month before Hiroshima.

It is a story of government betrayal with tragic consequences, when the U.S. secretly bombed its own citizens.

Thousands of New Mexicans, mostly Hispanic and Native American, were exposed to catastrophic levels of radioactive fallout. They were never warned, never acknowledged, and never helped. Generations of cancers followed.

At the center of the film is inspiring Hispanic cancer survivor and businesswoman Tina Cordova, who catalyzed a movement for justice and fought for compensation for families suffering multigenerational health impacts from the bomb.

On July 4, 2025, in a historic and unexpected move, Congress expanded RECA legislation, finally awarding overdue compensation to New Mexico families. Our newly revised film captures this emotional victory.

First We Bombed New Mexico celebrates the resilience, culture, and power of communities uniting to reclaim their history while exposing the racism and nuclear colonialism that shaped New Mexico’s fate.

Earlier this week, Councilwoman Idella Starr and Krystal Enjady were thrilled to host an Open House and Public Meeting alongside Roads and Utilities Department Supervisor Chris Little. We had a fantastic turnout and received some insightful questions from members of our community!

A huge thank you to our Roads and Utilities Department for their hard work and dedication to improving our transportation systems. Your engagement and feedback are vital as we move forward with our Long-Range Transportation Plan.
