Join Fire & Rescue, Mescalero Prevention Program, CHR, & BIA tomorrow, Saturday, April 25, 2026, for National Drug Take Back Day at Chiricahua Plaza from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM!

This is a great opportunity to safely, securely, and anonymously dispose of your unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications.

What You Can Bring:

• Accepted: Tablets, capsules, patches, and sealed liquid medications (in original containers). Vape pens are welcome too (just remember to remove the batteries).
• Not Accepted: Sharps, syringes, illegal drugs, and other hazardous materials.

Why It Matters:

• Prevent Misuse: A significant number of abused prescription drugs come from home medicine cabinets.
• Protect Our Environment: Proper disposal helps prevent contamination of our water supply.
• Safety First: Securely disposing of medications reduces the risk of accidental poisoning and misuse.

Since its start in 2010, the DEA has collected over 20 million pounds of medication through these events. If you can’t make it tomorrow, many pharmacies and police stations have permanent drop-off locations year-round.

To ensure you receive the very first issue, please complete and submit your form by April 28 at 2:00 PM.

This week, the Mescalero Tribal Leadership had the honor of hosting the Means Coalition of Large Tribes meetings, bringing together key voices from Indian Country to discuss crucial topics impacting our communities.

One of the highlights was the discussion on HUD Priorities, focusing on housing development as an essential aspect of economic growth. Chuck Hemphill, President of CKP Insurance, shared invaluable insights on how we can effectively capture government funding to benefit our land and our people. In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the East Mountain Resources Center is thrilled to announce two significant events aimed at raising awareness and providing support to our community.

Thursday, April 23:
We will be hosting an engaging Sexual Assault Awareness Session. This session will include an informative presentation where participants can learn about the resources available to them, along with incentives to encourage participation. This is a wonderful chance to deepen your understanding and contribute to an important conversation.

Next Week:
We are excited to partner with the BIA OJS Victim Specialist for a Community Walk dedicated to highlighting Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This event will not only allow us to come together as a community but will also feature a light lunch provided for attendees, while supplies last. It’s an excellent opportunity to connect with others and show our collective support.

All events are open to everyone in the community! We will have various resources available at each event to assist individuals and promote awareness. Let’s unite to foster understanding and provide support to those in need.

What is a Talking Circle?
A Talking Circle is a traditional gathering rooted in Indigenous practices, where community members come together to share personal experiences and emotions. It’s a respectful environment that encourages healing from trauma and fosters mental well-being.

Key Elements of the Talking Circle:

• Healing & Support: Focuses on mental and emotional health, addressing issues like domestic violence recovery, addiction recovery, grief, and chronic disease support (e.g., diabetes).
• Structure: Participants sit in a circle, promoting equality. A talking piece, such as a feather or stone, is passed around, granting the holder the only right to speak.
• Cultural Tradition: This oral tradition encourages deep listening.
• Purpose: To build community, pass on knowledge, and create a safe space for discussing challenging topics.

Whether you’re seeking support or want to lend an ear, this is an opportunity to connect with others and foster healing.

Every year students from grades (7th-12th grade) from Congressional District One get a chance to submit their artwork for the Congressional Art Competition for the Office of Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury. ALL ART WORK DUE APRIL 24^th by 5:00PM MT.
