Burns part of overall forest management strategy for Lincoln National Forest
ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico, January 30, 2024 – The Smokey Bear Ranger District on the Lincoln National Forest will be conducting prescribed pile burns February 5-10, 2024. Dates can be subject to change due to current conditions, and updates will be provided.
Crews will be targeting slash piles in approximately 94 acres of the Grindstone Prescribed Burn project area. The burns will allow crews to clear fuel buildup and are an important part of the fire mitigation strategy on the Lincoln National Forest.
Exact ignition dates depend upon agency administrator approval, and can be postponed on short notice due to developing conditions at the burn site.
Residents in the area can expect to see smoky conditions on the roads and in the surrounding areas of the burn during and in the days following the project. The area will be monitored for hot spots after the burn is completed.
