UPDATE: Emergency Rental Assistance Program

August 25, 2021 by Mescalero Apache Tribe

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program received over 400 applications and we are unable to respond to individual emails and phone calls inquiring about their status. Unfortunately, many people did not follow instructions on the application and supporting documentation (proof of income, leases, etc.) is missing. This will delay the review process.

Any applications submitted on Monday, August 23rd or later will not be reviewed until after Labor Day.

We are working in the following order:

  1. Off reservation tenants September rent and utility bills. (Must maintain/secure employment)
  2. Working homeless. (Must maintain employment)
  3. Homeless. (Must secure employment ASAP. IMG is hiring and so is everywhere else.)
  4. Mescalero Apache Tribe Housing Department tenants and utility bills.

You need to pay your bill if you are concerned the lights will be turned off, need gas, etc.

If you do not pay rent, the Homeowner’s Assistance Fund will launch in September. An announcement will be made.

UPDATE: White Mountain Half Marathon

August 20, 2021 by Mescalero Apache Tribe

Hello Mescalero,

We are excited to announce that the 2nd Annual “White Mountain Half Marathon, 5k and Kids K” will take place on Saturday, August 21, 2021. This will be an out and back race starting at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino (IMG). We are excited to host this year’s event once again on the beautiful Mescalero Apache Reservation and look forward to years of success with this race. If any of you are interested in running the Half Marathon, the 5k or the Kids K, please visit www.runwhitemountain.com for registration details.

If you would like to encourage and cheer for the racers along the route, we encourage you to do so. Just remember to please keep a minimum of ten (10’) feet from the edge of the roadway.

Please be advised that there will be changes to traffic flow and White Mountain Drive (Route 6) and Carrizo Canyon Road (Route 4) will be reduced down to one lane of travel, in one direction. White Mountain Drive (Route 6) will be open in both directions from Saltwell to the White Mountain Subdivision. Please, please reduce your speed on this stretch of road and be on the look out for runners. Speed limits will also be reduced as a precaution for the event participants. This will be a temporary closure and roads will be fully open no later than 12:00 noon.  Please pay attention to signage and those assisting with the event. Law enforcement will be present along the race route.

We will implement any COVID-19 safe practices issued by the CDC or the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

If you would like to assist and volunteer to help during the Half Marathon, please reach out to race planner Duane Duffy on his mobile at (575) 430-9323 or via email at duane.duffy83@gmail.com. Happy Running!
