We want to inform you that the Mescalero Parks and Recreation Department has made the difficult decision to temporarily close Silver Lake for fishing. This is due to extremely low lake levels caused by a crack in the lake bed, which has created unsafe conditions around the lake, including soft edges and deep mud.
We are actively working to address these issues, we appreciate your understanding and patience as we prioritize safety for our community.
Please stay tuned for updates, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Silver Lake once conditions are safe for all.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Sincerely,
Mescalero Parks and Recreation Department
Currently, the fire is holding at 805 acres, and remains at 0% containment. Today’s weather conditions are expected to present additional challenges, as thunderstorms are forecasted to develop east of the fire zone. Additionally, winds are anticipated to come from the southwest, with gusts reaching between 20 to 25 miles per hour.
On a positive note, air support will once again be deployed in the vicinity to assist with firefighting efforts on the Seven Springs Fire. The combination of these resources and the unpredictable weather will be crucial in managing the situation.
Today, the Southwest Area Incident Management Team One, Emergency Operations Manager Thomas LaPaz, and DRMP Supervisor John Nelson had a productive meeting with Mescalero Tribal President Thora Walsh-Padilla and with the Tribal Admnistrator Brian “Blue” Shendo. They shared valuable insights and strategies regarding the ongoing Seven Springs Fire.
During the discussion, they covered important topics, including the upcoming weather forecast, expected fire behavior, and the strategies in place to manage the situation effectively. This collaboration ensures that we are all informed and prepared as we work together to keep our community safe.
Thank you, President Walsh-Padilla, and the Incident Management Team for your dedication and leadership during this critical time. Let’s continue to support one another!
